I'm stumped: the Squeezeboxes work perfectly with other LMS installations. In the past I was successful with LMS on VirtualBox (also linux guest on windows host). Squeezelite-X seems to be able to connect without problems.Īny idea what could explain this behaviour? I have reinstalled Hyper-V, cleaned up my network adapters, redefined the virtual switches, but the result is always the same. But I cannot reproduce it: now all my physical devices immediately go back to standby. It is not fully consistent: on one occasion a Squeezebox 3 managed to stay on without returning to standby. Then, when I switch on a Squeezebox, it briefly shows Free Your Music, and then returns to standby (after 1-2 seconds at most). As soon as they connect to the server, they go to standby. My Squeezeboxes see this virtual server, can connect and take the standby screen from it. The virtual machine is connected to an external switch (hyper-v terminology: it is present on the same physical network as the host).

I have an LMS installation on a linux virtual machine running in Hyper-V in a Windows 10 host. When I click on the Edit icon the fields for name and url are displayed, however, the name is not saved. It is impossible to edit station name in the playlist. The title changes to "Title - Artist' format and artist shows the station name. Sometimes also the title and artist are not displayed properly. The artwork remains station logo - see screenshot lms-3. Of course, the same station url is stored in the Favorites and in the Playlist 5.Īnd when I press play for this station in the playlist, the artist and the title get updated to the right data, however,

LMS changes the display of the currently played song - see screenshot lms-2.īTW the station name in the playlist is wrong - I can't change it, see the note below. Whew! If you're still with me, congratulations! I did NOT set out to write this much.It is even weirder as the display changes as soon as you start browsing playlists - you don't have to change anything.įor example, when I navigate to the playlist where this radio is stored (e.g. Their layout/organization/filtering is pretty terrible, but I'm just using it as a free/unlimited repository. There's also a version of Plex, but I mostly don't bother storing movies or time-shifting - and Squeezebox is superior for music.įinally, even though I have multiple copies of all photos (PC, RAID based NAS, NAS backups, PC backups) I am using Amazon Photos (free so long as I stay with Prime) as an in-cloud backup. Synology has a nice photo-book app called PhotoStation. That's primarily my wife’s phone as I use a DSLR for photos.Įverything on the NAS is available to me wherever I go via OpenVPN and dynamic DNS - including music streaming (pretty nice at work but now it doesn’t matter).

Android devices get synced using Android app Folder Sync. Photos all get synced from my PC to the NAS. It also has OwnCloud, which I'm starting to migrate to. Synology has a built-in version of the server, but no MusicIP. The music files reside on a NAS (Synology Diskstation) server runs on a micro W10 SBC)

The server is relatively server OS agnostic, but I use windows, which makes it easy to also install Music IP (a plugin into the server - if you like what's currently playing, you can have it make a playlist of similar tunes.

Squeezebox, when it started, was centered around hardware playback devices (which were very, very good) but there are all sorts of software playback apps out there (Win/Lin/Mac/Droid/iOS/RasPi).

I'm using Squeezebox (which eventually became Logitech Media Server, and then was dropped by Logitech and is now free / OS) to serve music around the house.
